About the position

Mead & Hunt, Inc., a nationally recognized professional services consulting firm, is seeking an entry-level airport civil engineer to join our aviation group in Lansing, MI. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on various airport design projects, contributing to the development of plans and specifications, analyzing engineering reports, and preparing construction cost estimates. The successful candidate will engage in drafting tasks using AutoCAD and Civil3D to generate detailed plan sheets, ensuring that all designs meet the necessary standards and regulations. In addition to design work, the role involves assisting with construction administration tasks, which may require working in the field at project sites. This could include extended hours and overnight stays as needed, providing a hands-on experience in the construction process. The candidate will also be responsible for reading and interpreting FAA Advisory Circulars, geotechnical reports, and survey data, which are crucial for effective project designs. A valid driver's license is required, and the ability to pass a background check is essential, as some travel will be necessary for site visits and project oversight. The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor's degree (or higher) in civil engineering from an accredited four-year college or be able to obtain the degree within nine months of the hire date. Responsibilities

  • Develop plans and specifications for airport design projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in civil engineering from an accredited four-year college or ability to obtain the degree within nine months of hire date.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and/or Civil3D software programs.
  • Knowledge of civil/transportation design coursework.
  • Familiarity with construction field tasks including site grading, utilities, drainage, erosion control, paving, materials testing, and/or surveying.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Project software programs.
