About the position

We are seeking an Entry Level Civil Engineer to join our team at TJW Engineering, a traffic engineering and transportation planning consulting firm with offices in Irvine, California, and Boise, Idaho. This position offers the opportunity to work on diverse projects and gain valuable experience in the civil engineering field, while working in a close-knit, collaborative consulting environment. As a civil engineer at TJW Engineering, you will collaborate with a dedicated team of professionals to design a variety of traffic engineering plans and designs. Our firm's collaborative and supportive atmosphere promotes professional growth and allows individuals to play a pivotal role in shaping the transportation environment. Under the guidance of registered Civil Engineers, Traffic Engineers, and Professional Transportation Planners, you will work on various tasks and projects, including but not limited to: Traffic Signal Design, Intelligent Transportation Systems, Complete Streets and Bikeways, Signing and Striping Design, Alignment Studies, Roadway and Street Lighting Design, Traffic Control Plan Design, Pedestrian and Bicycle Design, Safe Routes to School, Traffic Calming Concept Plan Design, Roundabout Design, Traffic Signal Operations, and Vehicle Path Analysis. As a valued member of the TJW Engineering team, your role will embark on a dynamic developmental journey, marked by expanding responsibilities that cater to the growth of your skills and expertise. Initially, you will work closely with project managers and senior engineers actively contributing to the design process on a range of traffic engineering concepts and designs. Your responsibilities will encompass proficient utilization of AutoCAD, performing site visits, and adherence to industry standards to ensure comprehensive and constructible projects. As your experience deepens, you will progressively assume more independent design responsibilities, including making more complex design decisions, representing TJW Engineering in client meetings, engaging directly with agency personnel, and taking on the vital roles of mentorship and training for our junior team members. Ultimately, you will progress to overseeing small projects independently and pave the way for increased mid-level responsibilities within the company.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a dedicated team of professionals to design traffic engineering plans and designs.
  • Work on various tasks and projects including Traffic Signal Design, Intelligent Transportation Systems, and Complete Streets and Bikeways.
  • Utilize AutoCAD proficiently for design processes.
  • Perform site visits and adhere to industry standards for comprehensive projects.
  • Assume independent design responsibilities as experience deepens.
  • Represent TJW Engineering in client meetings and engage with agency personnel.
  • Mentor and train junior team members.
  • Oversee small projects independently as responsibilities increase.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering.
  • Engineering-in-Training certification or able to obtain within 12 months.
  • 0-3 years of experience in civil engineering or traffic engineering.
  • Strong background in civil engineering and/or traffic engineering principles.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States.

Nice-to-haves

  • Work experience in a civil or traffic engineering setting.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD.
