About the position

AECOM is seeking an Entry-Level Civil Engineer to be based in Roanoke, Virginia. This position is expected to begin in January 2025. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, building analytic and design skills, conducting engineering design under the supervision of an experienced engineer, and creating designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and final working drawings under the supervision of an experienced engineer. The role also involves collecting and analyzing data under the supervision of an experienced engineer, using computer software as a tool for solving basic engineering problems, and performing work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule under supervision. This position offers a unique opportunity to develop foundational engineering skills while contributing to impactful projects that help communities thrive.

Responsibilities

  • Builds analytic and design skills.
  • Conducts engineering design under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
  • Creates designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and final working drawings under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
  • Collects and analyzes data under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
  • Uses computer software as a tool for solving basic engineering problems.
  • Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule under supervision.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.

Nice-to-haves

  • Very Familiar with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Passed Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam or ability to take in the next 6 months.
  • Some experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, and other civil engineering-related software (Civil 3D, OpenRoads).
  • Previous work experience or internship with engineering firms, contractors, or DOTs involved in highway design, construction, management, or other transportation-related projects.
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License preferred to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices when public transportation is not available.
