About the position

Sargent & Lundy's Government Services Division provides cutting-edge engineering design and consulting support to the management and operating contractors for US Department of Energy (DOE) sites and national laboratories. Specifically, we support the DOE Environmental Management Directorate as well as the National Nuclear Security Administration laboratories and sites. This means you can be a part of multi-discipline design teams supporting projects that clean up the environmental damage associated with the legacy nuclear weapons production complex and/or preserve our country's nuclear deterrent. Our personnel design facilities, systems, and equipment that treat, store, and dispose of nuclear waste as well as systems that safely handle and process nuclear material. This mission-critical work is meaningful and challenging - work you can be proud of. As a member of a multi-disciplined project team, this position will offer you the opportunity to utilize and expand your academic background in Civil/Structural Engineering. This is an entry-level design engineering position that offers a variety of challenging opportunities in Civil/Structural Engineering and will provide an excellent opportunity for career advancement. In this position, you will have the opportunity to support Civil and/or Structural design engineering efforts on a multi-disciplined project design team. Under supervision, you will be responsible for the production of engineering calculations/analyses, design drawings, specifications, and engineering reports. You will apply civil and structural engineering principles to the design and qualification of structures, systems, and components.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen; Dual citizenship with a country other than the U.S. does not qualify
  • CE, ME, or SE degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program
  • Self-motivated with a strong willingness to learn
  • Ability to work independently as well as with a multi-disciplined team
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Knowledge of the practical application of structural engineering
  • Must be able to obtain US government security clearance

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in civil and structural engineering in a nuclear environment (DOE preferred, commercial or Navy)
  • Fundamentals of Engineering (EIT) certificate
  • Familiarity with structural analysis software such as ANSYS or SAP2000 or equivalent
  • Familiarity with design codes such as ACI, ASCE 7, IBC, and AISC
  • Field engineering and construction experience is a plus
