About the position

This role is pivotal in supporting product design efforts for IBM Z systems software, which is utilized by some of the world's largest enterprises. Our software is designed to deliver security, resiliency, performance, scalability, and sustainability through IBM's flagship enterprise compute platform. As a designer, you will focus on ensuring that the experiences we create meet the needs of our customers and end users, striving for design excellence in every aspect of your work. In this position, you will apply a user-centered perspective to your design work, advocating for the customer and end user in all interactions with your teammates and colleagues. You will engage with customers or other users of the product during the design process, ensuring that their needs and feedback are integrated into the final product. Content designers play a crucial role in creating and communicating meaning throughout product or service experiences. This involves researching subjects, writing, curating, and editing content for accuracy, clarity, and usability, ultimately helping users understand the value of IBM solutions and guiding them to achieve their goals across the product experience. Your responsibilities will include modeling, writing, and formatting content into viable solutions while evaluating the interactions between language and design elements. You will research and study the subject matter to inform your content, define and apply a consistent voice and tone, and participate in concept ideation based on user and customer goals. Additionally, you will attend client sessions, establish relationships, and advocate for user experience and value in product design. This role also emphasizes the importance of learning and mentorship, allowing you to strengthen your craft skills and contribute to the overall mission and strategy of the department.

Responsibilities

  • Model, write, and format content into viable, feasible, and desirable solutions with attention to accuracy, clarity, and usability.
  • Evaluate and design for the interactions between language and design elements to construct a logical, compelling narrative throughout the user/client journey.
  • Research and study the subject and context to inform content.
  • Define and apply consistent voice and tone throughout the content journey.
  • Define content goals and journeys based on user or customer goals.
  • Participate in concept ideation informed by an understanding of users, clients, and their desired outcomes.
  • Adapt work and processes according to guidance and direction from design leads.
  • Strengthen craft skills in your discipline through learning, mentorship, and producing.
  • Attend client/sponsor user sessions; establish your own client relationships.
  • Contribute to the design of a product by advocating for the user experience and value.
  • Learn about the org structure and key stakeholders of your PM and dev teams.
  • Seek and provide feedback on outcomes to your entire team.
  • Support advocacy of design thinking across the team.
  • Communicate with other designers and your cross-functional team about your project status.
  • Attend and participate in design reviews and playbacks to share experience design and related artifacts.
  • Understand how your work fits into the department mission, strategy, and vision.
  • Grow domain knowledge by learning the value proposition of your product, its market position, the basics of its technologies and how it's used by our customers.
  • Develop enough domain fluency to contribute ideas that differentiate the solution in the market.
  • Attend and participate in design and product-oriented activities, such as stand-ups, Town Halls, product demos or design critiques.
  • Develop the ability to find and apply relevant industry references/trends.
  • Identify improvement opportunities at the individual product level.

Requirements

  • Experience in solving complex user problems through user experience design, including writing content for product experiences.
  • Experience with creating user scenarios for usability testing, analysis of industry trends, task analysis and reporting conclusions in well-developed documents.
  • Experience with design tools (Figma, Sketch, InVision, Adobe Creative Cloud, etc.).
  • Strong communication, storytelling and documentation skills.
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic, team-based environment.
  • Experience of planning and facilitating workshops to reach a specific outcome; Ability to help people understand the value of solutions with clarity and consistency.
