About the position

The Entry Level Controls & Instrumentation Engineer position involves supporting various engineering projects related to control and data acquisition systems. The role is designed for recent graduates or those with limited experience, providing an opportunity to work under the supervision of senior engineers in a dynamic environment. The engineer will collaborate with a team to develop innovative solutions for complex challenges in sectors such as aerospace, automotive, and defense, contributing to significant projects that impact national security and technological advancement.

Responsibilities

  • Developing hardware assembly and wiring diagrams for control and data acquisition systems.
  • Implementing control system software designs for various parameters including temperature, pressure, and motion.
  • Developing control system software in PLC ladder logic and HMI programming.
  • Implementing interfaces to facility equipment using hardwired interfaces and industrial networks.
  • Applying closed loop controls methods to control continuously variable systems.
  • Supporting hardware assembly and fabrication.
  • Performing facility startup, checkout, and commissioning, both domestically and abroad.
  • Communicating with clients and management regarding project status.
  • Coordinating with other engineering disciplines and departments to ensure project success.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Mechatronics, or Computer Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering program.
  • 0-5 years of experience in control or data acquisition system design, implementation, or commissioning.
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office programs.
  • Experience in software development with a high-level programming language such as C/C++/C# and with engineering application software tools such as LabVIEW, MATLAB, and SIMULINK.
  • Basic knowledge of PLC and HMI programming environments such as Rockwell Software Studio 5000, SIEMENS TIA Portal, and Emerson PAC ME is a plus.
  • An interest and background in electronics, instrumentation, control and data acquisition systems, PLCs, and motion control systems.
  • A solid math background for data uncertainty calculations and process simulation.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and self-motivation to work independently when necessary.
  • A desire to develop innovative solutions to challenges.

Nice-to-haves

  • Basic knowledge of PLC and HMI programming environments such as Rockwell Software Studio 5000, SIEMENS TIA Portal, and Emerson PAC ME.
  • Experience with variable frequency drive systems, sensors, and communication networks.
