About the position

The Entry-Level Controls & Instrumentation Engineer position at Amentum involves supporting a variety of engineering projects related to control and data acquisition systems. The role is designed for recent graduates or those with limited experience, providing an opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers in a dynamic environment focused on innovative solutions for mission-critical challenges across various industries, including aerospace, automotive, and defense.

Responsibilities

  • Developing hardware assembly and wiring diagrams for control and data acquisition systems.
  • Implementing control system software designs for various parameters such as temperature, pressure, and motion.
  • Developing control system software in PLC ladder logic and HMI programming.
  • Implementing interfaces to facility equipment using hardwired interfaces and industrial networks.
  • Applying closed loop control methods to continuously variable systems.
  • Supporting hardware assembly and fabrication.
  • Performing facility startup, checkout, and commissioning, both domestically and abroad.
  • Communicating with clients and management regarding project status.
  • Coordinating with other engineering disciplines and departments.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Mechatronics, or Computer Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering program.
  • 0-5 years of experience in control or data acquisition system design, implementation, or commissioning.
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office programs.
  • Experience in software development with a high-level programming language such as C/C++/C# and engineering application software tools like LabVIEW, MATLAB, and SIMULINK.
  • Basic knowledge of PLC and HMI programming environments such as Rockwell Software Studio 5000, SIEMENS TIA Portal, and Emerson PAC ME is a plus.
  • An interest and background in electronics, instrumentation, control and data acquisition systems, PLCs, and motion control systems.
  • A solid math background for data uncertainty calculations and process simulation.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and self-motivation to work independently when necessary.
  • A desire to develop innovative approaches to challenges.

Nice-to-haves

  • Basic knowledge of PLC and HMI programming environments such as Rockwell Software Studio 5000, SIEMENS TIA Portal, and Emerson PAC ME.
  • Experience with variable frequency drive systems, sensors, and communication networks.
