As a Junior Controls & Instrumentation Engineer, you will play a crucial role in transforming abstract ideas into tangible solutions. You will collaborate with industry experts on mission-critical projects, including NASA's return to the moon and the development of fuel-efficient vehicles for international automotive manufacturers. Our team specializes in the design, construction, and operation of complex research and development facilities, working with clients such as Audi, Boeing, and the U.S. Department of Energy. This position offers a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic environment, supporting various projects while ensuring client satisfaction and delivering results within scope, budget, and schedule. In this role, you will be responsible for developing hardware assembly and wiring diagrams for control and data acquisition systems, implementing control system software designs, and applying closed-loop control methods to manage continuously variable systems. You will also support hardware assembly and fabrication, perform facility startup and commissioning, and communicate project status with clients and management. This position requires a team-oriented individual who is organized, able to meet deadlines, and possesses strong communication skills to interact with all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Develop hardware assembly and wiring diagrams for control and data acquisition systems.
  • Implement control system software designs that include control of temperature, pressure, humidity, flow, force, motion of mechanisms, system safety, human safety, and other advanced process and electromechanical systems.
  • Develop control system software in PLC ladder logic, function block, HMI programming, etc.
  • Implement interfaces to facility equipment using hardwired interfaces and industrial networks.
  • Apply closed loop controls methods, both classical and modern, to control continuously variable systems.
  • Support hardware assembly and fabrication.
  • Perform facility startup, checkout, and commissioning, both domestically and abroad.
  • Communicate with clients and management regarding project status.
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and departments to ensure success.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Mechatronics, or Computer Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering program.
  • 0-5 years of experience in control or data acquisition system design, implementation, or commissioning.
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office programs.
  • Experience in software development with a high-level programming language such as C/C++/C# and with engineering application software tools such as LabVIEW, MATLAB and SIMULINK.
  • Basic knowledge of PLC and HMI programming environments such as Rockwell Software Studio 5000, SIEMENS TIA Portal, and Emerson PAC ME is a plus.
  • An interest and background in electronics, instrumentation, control and data acquisition systems, PLCs, variable frequency drive systems, motion control systems, sensors and transmitters, actuators, PID control, and communication networks.
  • A solid math background to select and develop data uncertainty calculations, digital filter algorithms, control transfer function realizations, and process simulation.
  • Ability and willingness to work in a team environment to design, develop, and deliver control and data acquisition systems.
  • Self-motivation and initiative to work alone when necessary.
  • A desire to develop ingenious alternative approaches to challenges, and drive innovation during all phases of projects.
  • US Citizenship.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with industrial instrumentation and data acquisition measurement systems.
  • Familiarity with control devices such as Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs).
