About the position

QuidelOrtho is seeking a motivated Entry-Level Data Engineer to join their Global Data and Analytics team. This role is crucial for building, maintaining, and optimizing the data infrastructure to ensure accurate and timely data for decision-making across the organization. The position offers remote eligibility or a hybrid schedule for local candidates in San Diego.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, construct, test, and maintain data and analytics infrastructure, including databases and large-scale processing systems like Azure Databricks.
  • Build and optimize large data sets that meet functional business requirements.
  • Design and implement ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes using tools such as Informatica, SSIS, and Azure Data Factory.
  • Monitor and manage ETL jobs to ensure smooth operation and timely completion.
  • Collaborate with Data Engineers, analysts, and other stakeholders to understand data needs and provide reliable data solutions.
  • Optimize data delivery process and assist with any re-design of data infrastructure for greater scalability.
  • Work on cloud data platforms, primarily Azure or AWS, to support data warehousing, analytics, and big data processing.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of data operations procedures, troubleshooting protocols, and system configurations to ensure clarity, consistency, and ease of knowledge transfer within the team.
  • Perform other job duties as requested.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of database management, data warehousing, and ETL processes.
  • Familiarity with cloud data platforms (Azure or AWS) and related data and analytics solutions.
  • Experience or coursework in using ETL tools such as Informatica, SSIS, or Azure Data Factory.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt to new technologies and methodologies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Internships or project experience in data engineering, data warehousing, or a related field.
  • Basic knowledge of programming languages such as SQL or Python.
  • Understanding of data governance and best practices in data management.
  • Familiarity with Power BI or Tableau.
  • Exposure to big data tools and technologies.
