About the position

The Entry Level Electrical Engineer position within the Energy & Industrial Group (EIG) offers an opportunity to engage in industry-leading projects focused on power generation, environmental compliance, and renewable energy technologies. The role involves working in a collaborative project team environment, contributing to the design and analysis of electrical systems for both new installations and retrofits. The engineer will be responsible for power distribution designs, preparing specifications for electrical equipment, and ensuring compliance with relevant codes and client requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Work under the direction of the project lead in a project team environment.
  • Design and analyze new and existing power plant and industrial plant electrical systems.
  • Prepare specifications for the procurement of major electrical power equipment.
  • Support project lead in coordinating systems design activities to ensure compliance with specifications and codes.
  • Prepare functional design drawings including single line, relay and metering, cable block, and schematic diagrams.
  • Conduct detailed calculations including auxiliary power system studies, voltage drop, protective relay settings, and arc flash calculations.
  • Interface with vendors to prepare bills of material and equipment purchase specifications.
  • Develop career through peer-learning and participation in Communities of Practice.
  • Travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and site locations for construction coordination.

Requirements

  • A BS in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program is required, with an emphasis in power systems preferred.
  • Familiarity with electrical system design including medium and low voltage distribution systems.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles for producing technical plans and drawings.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and designation as an Engineer in Training.
  • Experience in the design of electrical engineering systems in a project team environment, focusing on integrated system design for new or modified plants.
