About the position

The Electrical/Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for developing design and construction work packages for electrical overhead distribution systems for electric utility customers. This role emphasizes system reliability and improvement by upgrading old equipment or implementing new solutions. The engineer will assess client work scopes, perform fieldwork, and complete design tasks using specialized CAD software, ensuring that all materials meet site requirements and are properly documented for construction crews.

Responsibilities

  • Develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead distribution systems.
  • Review and assess client-provided work scopes.
  • Perform field work involving photos and measurements of specific sites or circuits.
  • Complete design work using Open Utilities, a MicroStation-based CAD system.
  • Perform energy analysis to ensure material selection meets site requirements.
  • Create a Bill of Materials (BOM) to be entered in SAP/Material Tracking Software.
  • Assist with permits for utility lines.
  • Submit completed electrical construction packages for approval and revisions.
  • Communicate frequently with clients via email, phone, and Teams.

Requirements

  • Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Catia, or MicroStation.
  • Knowledge of NESC (National Electric Safety Code) codes.
  • Experience with distribution construction and design standards.
  • Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles.
  • Ability to perform QA/Quality Assurance and QC/Quality Control tasks.
  • Proficiency in using software like Poleforman, PLA/Pole Loading Analysis, and Katapault.

Nice-to-haves

  • Electrical Engineering Degree, Mechanical Engineering Degree, or Engineering Technology Degree in ME/EE.
  • Entry-level designers with an associate degree in design or related distribution/utility experience will be considered.
  • Experience working with electric utilities or electric utility consulting firms.
  • Experience in training new employees and writing process standards.
