About the position

The Entry-Level Environmental Scientist/Engineer position at The Vertex Companies LLC involves conducting environmental assessments and supporting project delivery for high-profile projects in New Jersey. This role is designed for individuals looking to develop their skills in environmental science and engineering, with a focus on site assessments and data analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct and prepare Environmental Site Assessments (ESA), New Jersey Preliminary Assessments, and Property Condition Assessments.
  • Collect samples of various media including soil, groundwater, soil-gas, and air.
  • Compile and review laboratory and field data.
  • Write detailed client-facing ESA, PCA, and other technical reports, including the preparation of accurate data/summary tables and/or figures.
  • Assist managers with coordination of work activities for multiple project functions to ensure satisfying project delivery, including 3rd party contractor coordination and oversight.
  • Assist managers in meeting project milestones, budgetary limits, deadlines, or other performance indicators.
  • Prepare and implement Health and Safety Plans.

Requirements

  • BS in Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related field.
  • Coursework, internship, or professional experience in environmental assessment activities, including Phase I Environmental Site Assessments and sample collection.
  • Ability to travel to client sites - valid driver's license required.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills in English.
  • Proficiency using MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Ability to walk job sites during inspections, sometimes on uneven terrain.
  • Ability to carry field testing equipment (up to 30 pounds) onto job sites with regularity.

Nice-to-haves

  • Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training certifications preferred (training provided if necessary).
  • Proficiency using AutoCAD or Geographic Information Systems (GIS) programs a plus.
