About the position

AECOM is actively seeking an Entry Level Highway Design Civil Engineer in the Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania area to join AECOM's Transportation team. This position is flexible to begin in Winter of 2024 or Spring of 2025. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, conducting engineering design under the supervision of an experienced engineer. The engineer will create designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and final working drawings under the supervision of an experienced engineer. The role involves using computer software as a tool for solving basic engineering problems and performing work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule under supervision. Key tasks include the design of roadway geometry, traffic control, signing, and pavement markings, as well as utility coordination support, Computer Aided Design production, and calculation of quantities and cost estimates.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts engineering design under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
  • Creates designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and final working drawings under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
  • Uses computer software as a tool for solving basic engineering problems.
  • Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule under supervision.
  • Design of roadway geometry, traffic control, signing, and pavement markings.
  • Utility coordination support.
  • Computer Aided Design production.
  • Calculation of quantities and cost estimates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrate effective time management, task prioritization, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work productively in a team environment.
  • Professionalism in verbal and written communications.
  • Ability to adapt to shifting priorities/work schedules.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite.
  • NCEES FE (any state).
  • Technical experience preferred in MicroStation & AutoCAD, BlueBeam, OpenRoads, and/or InRoads.
  • Prior relevant internship experience.
  • Receptive to comments and direction provided by others.

Nice-to-haves

  • Academic track with focus in transportation, highways, roadways, and/or pavement design is highly desirable.
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License preferred to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices when public transportation is not available.
