About the position

The position involves working as an Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) Engineer within the Energy & Industrial Group (EIG) at Sargent & Lundy. The role focuses on supporting industry-leading projects in power generation, environmental compliance, and renewable energy technologies. The engineer will collaborate with project teams to design new power and industrial plants, modify existing facilities, and enhance plant control systems. Responsibilities include preparing specifications for instrumentation and control systems, developing process control strategies, and gaining field experience through site visits and vendor interactions. The position offers a hybrid work schedule, requiring in-office work four days a week with the option to work remotely on the fifth day.

Responsibilities

  • Work on project teams with other I&C engineers involved in the design of new power and industrial plants.
  • Prepare specifications for the procurement of process instrumentation and control systems.
  • Develop process control strategies and design electrical control circuits.
  • Gain field experience through site visits for design verification and construction coordination.
  • Participate in design reviews and meetings at client and vendor offices.
  • Witness acceptance testing at vendor fabrication facilities.
  • Engage in mentoring and technical sessions to enhance knowledge in I&C engineering.

Requirements

  • A BS or MS degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering from an ABET accredited program, graduating in Fall 2024 or earlier.
  • Academic background in analog and digital control systems.
  • Understanding of instrumentation and control system engineering principles.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications, especially MS Excel, Access, and Visio.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working in a collaborative team environment.
  • Exceptional work habits and a resourceful, enthusiastic attitude.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience or coursework in power systems, electronics, or communication and networking.
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and designation as an Engineer in Training.
  • Knowledge of design techniques and tools for producing technical plans and drawings.
  • Related engineering internship or co-op work experience.
