About the position

This entry-level design engineering position at Sargent & Lundy focuses on Nuclear Instrument and Controls Engineering, providing opportunities to work on digitizing existing power plants and building new nuclear power plants, including small modular reactors (SMR). The role involves collaboration within a multi-discipline engineering team to enhance the functionality of nuclear power plants through instrumentation and controls betterment projects.

Responsibilities

  • Work on multi-discipline engineering teams involved in nuclear power plant instrumentation and controls projects.
  • Utilize electronic process sensors, digital controllers, touchscreen displays, pumps, valves, heat exchangers, steam turbines, and reactors to improve plant functionality.
  • Prepare specifications for procurement of instrumentation and controls equipment.
  • Conduct engineering calculations associated with plant upgrades and modifications.
  • Prepare documentation for design input for drawing production, including cable block diagrams and schematics.
  • Prepare reports and studies that present technical information clearly to meet client requirements.
  • Participate in mentoring, classroom-style technical sessions, and on-the-job training to enhance engineering knowledge and skills.
  • Travel to client and vendor offices as required.

Requirements

  • A BS or MS degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering from an ABET accredited program with a strong academic background in analog and digital control systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working in a collaborative team environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Coursework in mechatronics is desired but not required.
  • An understanding of the practical application of instrumentation and control system engineering and technology.
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and designation as an Engineer in Training.
  • Related engineering internship or co-op work experience.
