About the position

The Entry-Level Structural Engineer at Salas O'Brien will assist in the planning, design, and oversight of civil engineering projects, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and regulations. Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design and development of infrastructure projects, including roads, bridges, water systems, and buildings.
  • Use CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D) to create detailed plans, drawings, and models for civil engineering projects.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and project teams to ensure that designs meet project requirements and specifications.
  • Conduct site assessments and surveys to collect data on topography, soil composition, and other environmental factors.
  • Assist in the preparation of site development plans, including grading, drainage, and utility layouts.
  • Support the analysis of project feasibility, including cost estimation, risk assessment, and environmental impact.
  • Assist in monitoring construction activities to ensure compliance with design specifications, safety standards, and building codes.
  • Participate in site inspections and quality control processes during construction.
  • Provide support in resolving technical issues that arise during the construction phase.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed engineering documentation, including design reports, calculations, and construction schedules.
  • Assist in the preparation of technical reports, project proposals, and progress updates.
  • Contribute to the development of project documentation for permitting and regulatory approvals.
  • Work closely with project managers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure that project milestones are achieved on time and within budget.
  • Participate in meetings with clients, government agencies, and other stakeholders to discuss project progress and requirements.
  • Provide technical support and recommendations throughout the project lifecycle.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D) and familiarity with engineering design tools.
  • Basic understanding of civil engineering principles, including structural analysis, hydraulics, geotechnics, and transportation systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Internship or co-op experience in civil engineering or a related field is a plus, but not required.
  • Familiarity with civil engineering codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., AASHTO, ASCE, ASTM).
  • Experience with project management software (e.g., Microsoft Project, Primavera).
  • Basic knowledge of surveying techniques and equipment.
