About the position

AECOM is seeking an Entry-Level Structural Engineer to join their Transportation Department in Mechanicsburg, PA. This role is designed for new graduates who are eager to contribute creatively to a variety of engineering projects. The position offers participation in AECOM's Graduate Development Program, which supports technical development and career growth. The engineer will work collaboratively with multi-discipline teams to develop engineering solutions from initial concepts to detailed designs, contributing to the effective delivery of projects.

Responsibilities

  • Builds analytic and design skills.
  • Conducts engineering design under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
  • Creates designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and final working drawings under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
  • Collects and analyzes data under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
  • Uses computer software as a tool for solving basic engineering problems.
  • Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule under supervision.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering.
  • Academic track with a structural engineering concentration is highly desirable.
  • 1-2 cycles of relevant internship experience in the execution of structural design projects is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail.
  • Some production software experience including but not limited to: MicroStation, AutoCAD, MS Office, and Bluebeam is highly desirable.
  • Some structural analysis software experience including but not limited to: STAAD.Pro, SAP2000, CSI Bridge, and LUSAS are a plus.
  • Basic familiarity and working knowledge of relevant building codes and standards including AASHTO, IBC, ASCE 7, AISC 360, ACI 318, ACI 530, NDS, etc.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master of Science in Structural Engineering or related field is a plus.
  • A valid U.S. Driver's License, or the ability to obtain one before employment, is preferred for visiting project sites.
