About the position

At IBM, we believe that good design is good business, and as a User Experience (UX) Designer, you will play a crucial role in creating human-centered experiences that enhance our products and services. In this position, you will work closely with a team of product designers to design the structural and informational foundation for various systems, ensuring that all elements, interactions, and decisions contribute positively to the overall user experience. You will be part of IBM Studios Austin, where collaboration is key, and you will spend three days a week in the office to foster a strong design community. Your responsibilities will include working with UX researchers to test concepts with users and integrating findings into your design direction through both low and high-fidelity mockups, patterns, prototypes, and development-ready specifications. You will analyze and creatively solve complex user problems through user interface design, ensuring a usable, intuitive, and aesthetically pleasing experience. Additionally, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product management, engineering, sales, and marketing, to craft UX solutions that align with business objectives and user needs. As part of your role, you will participate in agile and design thinking methodologies, engage in UX reviews and critiques, and contribute to a positive team culture. Your week will typically consist of 75% product design, 15% team collaboration, and 10% personal training and learning. This position is ideal for someone who is passionate about design and eager to make a significant impact in the tech industry.

Responsibilities

  • Work with UX researchers to test concepts with users and integrate findings into design direction.
  • Analyze and creatively solve complex user problems through user interface design.
  • Design information architecture, interactions, content, and navigation throughout the product experience.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and multiple stakeholders to craft UX solutions.
  • Participate in agile and design thinking methodologies.
  • Engage in UX reviews, critiques, and guilds to develop effective designs.
  • Promote a positive team culture and work environment.

Requirements

  • A portfolio of work samples demonstrating user-centered design and interaction design.
  • Familiarity with design and prototyping tools such as Figma.
  • Strategic thinking to align design goals with business goals.
  • Solid understanding of fundamental design principles (typography, layout, grid systems, hierarchy, color, composition).
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills in English.
  • Ability to work from the office in Austin 3 days per week.

  • Bachelor's Degree in User Experience Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related field.
