About the position

As an Entry-Level Welder at Nucor, you will be responsible for welding low carbon steel, working primarily with 16-7 gauges and wall thicknesses ranging from 0.125” to 0.500”. The ideal candidate will either be AWS/ASME certified or certifiable. Your role will involve performing routine maintenance on the MIG welder and related equipment, as well as conducting welding repairs as needed. You will be required to weld components in both flat and vertical positions, and perform 360-degree welds to ensure structural integrity. In addition to welding, you will position and secure parts using hoists, cranes, and various hand tools. You will also be responsible for clamping, holding, tack-welding, heat-bending, grinding, or bolting component parts to achieve the required configurations and positions for welding. Monitoring the fitting, burning, and welding processes is crucial to avoid issues such as overheating, warping, or distortion of parts. You will examine work pieces for defects and measure them with straightedges or templates to ensure they conform to specifications. Completing all necessary paperwork at each station is part of your responsibilities, as well as participating in job rotation to address cross-training and ergonomic issues. You will assist in relieving bottlenecks in manufacturing processes and monitor the output of quality parts through inspection and record-keeping.
