About The Position

Performs highly specialized professional-level work in the Environmental Enhancement and Restoration Division. Responsible for planning, coordinating, implementing, and administering complex environmental and regulatory programs related to sea turtle and manatee conservation and protection. Administers grants, agreements and contracts; manages associated files and data, data collection, file management, database maintenance, data analysis, and quality control; reviews permits and prepares technical reports; coordinates research and permit-required monitoring associated with beach nourishment projects; produces/distributes public outreach materials; coordinates the County's sea turtle lighting compliance program, initiating enforcement and permitting; manages data, agreements and conducts plan review associated with the County's manatee protection plan; gathers data to advise the public of County, state and/or federal environmental regulations; facilitates public contact explaining code/rule compliance and making recommendations to property owners and their representatives; performs educational/outreach activities for programmatic activities. Assists in other section duties such as Self-Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus (SCUBA) diving for reef surveys and water quality monitoring. Work is performed under the direction of an Environmental Program Supervisor and is reviewed through conferences, reports, and by feedback from the regulated community and special interest groups.
