About the position

The Environmental and Land Use Planner position at Tucson Electric Power involves securing environmental permits and land use authorizations necessary for the construction and maintenance of distribution, transmission, and generation assets. The role encompasses managing consultants, providing technical guidance, and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. This position is available at various levels (I, II, III, or Senior) depending on the candidate's experience and qualifications, with responsibilities scaling accordingly.

Responsibilities

  • Secure environmental permits and land use authorizations for distribution, transmission, and generation assets.
  • Manage consultants and direct their efforts in securing necessary permits and authorizations.
  • Provide technical guidance and permitting assistance for land use inquiries.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal departments, regulators, and stakeholders.
  • Review and manage requests for proposals, project scopes, and budgets.
  • Provide GIS support, including map preparation and database maintenance.
  • Monitor project schedules and expenditures, providing variance explanations as needed.
  • Lead meetings concerning assigned projects and coordinate across departments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Planning or a closely related field for ELUP I, with one year of related experience.
  • Three or more years of professional experience in Environmental and Land Planning for ELUP II, or a Master's degree with at least one year of experience.
  • Five or more years of professional experience for ELUP III, or a Master's degree with at least three years of experience.
  • Ten or more years of professional experience for Senior ELUP, or a Master's degree with at least five years of experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of municipal and county zoning and land use codes.
  • Experience in facilitating business meetings and building consensus.
  • Proficiency in various software programs including geospatial tools.
