About the position

The Environmental and Permitting Manager is responsible for integrating environmental issues and requirements into various project documents and plans at Bechtel. This role involves technical oversight of environmental compliance, managing environmental personnel, and ensuring adherence to regulatory standards throughout project execution. The manager will also provide technical assistance across multiple project functions and contribute to the development of environmental management plans.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise a component of an environmental program, including technical and administrative aspects.
  • Provide technical support within ESH teams and to other project functions regarding ESH program execution.
  • Confirm integration of environmental requirements in planning documents and construction plans.
  • Prepare Environmental Management Plans and associated training programs in compliance with standards and regulations.
  • Utilize risk assessment and data analysis to track and achieve continual improvement in environmental performance.
  • Prepare technical and regulatory reports, conduct environmental assessments, and evaluate data trends.
  • Participate in ESH emergency response planning and confirm resolution of environmental incidents.
  • Conduct inspections and monitoring to assess compliance with environmental permits and regulations.
  • Oversee preparation and submittal of environmental permit applications and negotiate permit conditions with regulatory agencies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental sciences, field biology, or natural resources.
  • 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience for Level 1.
  • 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience for Level 2.
  • Prior experience with USEPA, state and local permitting processes, NEPA, FERC, USACE, OSHA, or Coast Guard.
  • Ability to travel to construction sites and don Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Experience managing environmental programs, budgets, and staff in office and field environments.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Bechtel's organization structure and administrative procedures.
  • Experience on Department of Defense or Department of Energy projects.
  • Experience with hazardous materials abatement practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience on linear development projects such as road or pipeline installation.
