About The Position

The Environmental Chemist/Microbiologist at WSSC Water is responsible for conducting chemical and microbiological analyses in a laboratory setting, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and quality standards. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • 4+ years of laboratory experience, including 3+ years in environmental laboratory work.
  • 1+ years of quality assurance program experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of chemistry and microbiology principles.
  • Skill in operating various analytical instrumentation and performing routine maintenance.
  • Knowledge of EPA regulations and environmental SOPs.
  • Ability to prepare comprehensive analytical reports and interpret results.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with laboratory computer programs and LIMS.
  • Familiarity with Safety Data Sheets and laboratory safety procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for laboratory staff.
  • Conduct primary analyses and serve as an alternate for other analyses.
  • Use advanced instrumentation for microbiological and chemical analyses.
  • Perform a variety of analyses and ensure quality control standards are met.
  • Monitor and validate data produced by analysts for compliance.
  • Prepare samples for analyses, including filtration and extraction.
  • Provide cross-training and guidance to laboratory personnel.
  • Assist in compliance with new regulations affecting water treatment facilities.
  • Prepare reports to satisfy EPA and MDE requirements.
  • Research new technological advancements for laboratory use.
  • Conduct special projects research for laboratory management.
  • Analyze quarterly and annual Proficiency Testing samples.
  • Update laboratory QA/QC and safety records.
  • Assist in writing and updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Perform routine maintenance on analytical instrumentation.
  • Assist with sample preparation and research for new methodologies.
  • Drive a vehicle for WSSC Water business.
