About the position

The Environmental/Civil Engineer at HDR, Inc. is responsible for designing and planning civil work related to environmental and solid waste industry infrastructure projects. This role involves preparing technical reports, cost estimates, and specifications, as well as leading projects and supervising a small team. The position is based in Honolulu, Hawaii, and requires a strong understanding of local environmental regulations and engineering practices.

Responsibilities

  • Design and plan production of civil work related to environmental and solid waste industry infrastructure projects.
  • Prepare technical reports, memorandums, and other project documents.
  • Prepare quantity calculations, cost estimates, specifications, and contract documents for public entity projects.
  • Perform complex assignments exercising judgment in evaluation, selection, and modification of standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Make decisions on significant design and engineering procedures as needed.
  • Function as a Lead Engineer or Project Manager on mid-size projects as needed.
  • Supervise a small staff of professionals and technicians as needed.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental or Civil Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Environmental or Civil Engineering related work.
  • State of Hawaii Professional Engineer (PE) or ability to obtain through reciprocity.
  • Understanding of State of Hawaii and City and County of Honolulu NPDES and storm water quality rules.
  • Knowledge of State of Hawaii Administrative Rules related to Environmental Impact Statements or Assessments.
  • Familiarity with City and County of Honolulu grading and building permitting process.
  • Basic understanding or experience in construction and field investigation activities.
  • Demonstrated leadership and communication skills.
  • Hands-on experience with computer applications in Civil Engineering such as AutoCad, InRoads, Siteworks, Hecras, etc.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
