Environmental Coordinator

About the position

The Environmental Coordinator at Colorado Springs Utilities is responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, particularly those related to public drinking water safety and wastewater management. This role involves managing the Backflow Prevention and Cross-Connection Control Program, educating stakeholders, and conducting fieldwork to protect the city's water supply from contamination. The position is critical for maintaining public health and environmental stewardship.

Responsibilities

• Compile, compute, evaluate, analyze, and report backflow prevention assembly and enforcement information.
• Track regulatory data to identify potential cross-connections and ensure adequate backflow prevention methods.
• Serve as a technical lead and resource for internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with Regulation 11.
• Stay informed of local, state, and federal regulatory changes impacting the BPCCC Program.
• Educate customers on cross-connection hazards and communicate regulatory requirements and timelines.
• Track and manage enforcement actions related to uncontrolled cross-connections.
• Develop and implement processes and procedures for compliance with environmental regulations.
• Evaluate operations and projects, providing consultation and education to improve compliance with environmental regulations.
• Assist with fieldwork such as wastewater sampling, facility inspections, and field investigations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science or a related field.
• Environmental compliance and/or regulatory experience, preferably in water or wastewater management.
• Possession of a valid, unrestricted driver's license.
