About the position

Barr is seeking an environmental engineer to join its Bismarck office, focusing on the investigation, evaluation, and remediation of contaminated sites. The role involves managing multidisciplinary teams, preparing technical work plans and reports, and coordinating environmental assessments. The engineer will also conduct feasibility studies, develop management strategies, and oversee site remediation activities while engaging in business development to foster client relationships and identify new project opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Manage multidisciplinary teams on environmental projects.
  • Prepare technical work plans and reports.
  • Coordinate ASTM Phase I environmental site assessments.
  • Investigate contaminated soil, sediment, groundwater, and vapor intrusion.
  • Conduct remediation technology evaluations and feasibility studies.
  • Develop site management strategies, remedial design, and response action plans.
  • Coordinate site remediation activities.
  • Prepare cost estimates and contracts for investigation activities.
  • Develop proposals, scopes of work, and budgets.
  • Conduct communications, meetings, and negotiations with clients and regulatory agency personnel.
  • Provide overall project management and mentor junior staff.
  • Engage in business development activities to identify and develop new project opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental, civil, geological, or chemical engineering or related disciplines.
  • 10 or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness.
  • Strong computer skills, including word processing and use of spreadsheets.
  • Flexible working style and ability to work independently and with teams.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% and adjust personal schedule as needed.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in engineering or a related discipline.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) or ability to become registered within one year.
  • 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard (HAZWOPER) certification.
  • Project management and leadership experience with complex projects.
  • Experience conducting communications, meetings, and negotiations with clients and regulatory personnel.
  • Experience with staff mentoring, building client relationships, and business development.
