About the position

The Environmental Engineer (Water) at Georgia-Pacific's Toledo mill is responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction for the mill's environmental programs, particularly focusing on water management. This role aims to align mill and regional water strategies, enhance performance through sustainable management systems, and ensure compliance with environmental regulations. The position is pivotal in identifying and mitigating risks while fostering a culture of environmental stewardship within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and strategic direction related to the mill's water programs consistent with Stewardship & Compliance Principles.
  • Develop and maintain an evergreen point of view of environmental risks, priorities, key issues, and strategic plans for the mill's water program.
  • Lead and support the mill's environmental permitting efforts and track emerging environmental issues.
  • Fulfill regulatory compliance obligations leveraging technology enablers and best practices.
  • Drive the water environmental programs to be more resilient, effective, consistent, verifiable, and efficient.
  • Build solid working relationships with internal and external stakeholders including regulatory agencies.
  • Coordinate and oversee offsite contractors and consultants to maintain environmental obligations.
  • Develop and maintain a strong working knowledge of mill processes and their impact on environmental performance.
  • Lead compliance with various regulations including NPDES, SPCC, SARA, and Stormwater.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience in environmental compliance and water management.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and permitting processes.
  • Ability to develop strategic plans and drive performance improvements.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Environmental Engineering or related field.
  • Experience in the manufacturing industry, particularly in paper or packaging sectors.
  • Familiarity with sustainability practices and principles.
