About the position

The Environmental Engineer at CDM Smith will play a crucial role in addressing complex water resource challenges. This position involves designing water and wastewater treatment facilities, ensuring compliance with regulations, and contributing to the firm's technical knowledge through documentation and publications. The engineer will also provide guidance to junior staff and participate in professional development activities.

Responsibilities

  • Creates engineering designs for water and wastewater treatment facilities, water and sewer systems, pipelines, pump stations, remediation sites, and solid waste facilities under light supervision.
  • Reviews draft designs and reports for compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, ensuring adherence to firm policies.
  • Performs site reviews and studies to ensure designs align with location specifications and updates design requirements as necessary.
  • Conducts water quality analyses and modeling.
  • Develops white papers and technical design documentation for new or special case designs and submits them for publication in technical journals.
  • Attends conferences and symposia to enhance the visibility of the firm's products and services in collaboration with sales staff.
  • Provides technical guidance and training to junior staff and reviews their work.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental or Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 3 years of related experience.
  • Expert knowledge of computer-assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D and 4D software and practices.
  • Solid knowledge of engineering principles of design.
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft business software (Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
