About the position

BLDI is seeking an Environmental Scientist/Environmental Engineering Technician to join our busy team in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The ideal candidate will assist in conducting a variety of environmental due diligence reports, including but not limited to, Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments, Baseline Environmental Assessments, and Due Care Plans. The Environmental Scientist/Environmental Engineering Technician will collect data and document field conditions for our remediation sites. This includes preparation and cleaning of equipment, operation of field sampling pumps and monitoring instruments, collection of soil, groundwater and soil gas samples, surveying, logging of soil borings, groundwater monitoring well installations, collection of field results and monitoring, documentation of field events, and preparation of samples for laboratory pick-up. The position requires participation in a predominance of field work, which involves out-of-town travel and overnight stays. The candidate will also be responsible for developing tables, figures, and a variety of reports/documents for our remediation department. Following company safety standards, participating in safety training, and preparing and implementing site safety plans are essential components of this role. The successful candidate will work closely with project managers, clients, and other staff, ensuring effective communication and collaboration throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in conducting environmental due diligence reports, including Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments, Baseline Environmental Assessments, and Due Care Plans.
  • Collect data and document field conditions for remediation sites.
  • Prepare and clean equipment for fieldwork.
  • Operate field sampling pumps and monitoring instruments.
  • Collect soil, groundwater, and soil gas samples.
  • Survey and log soil borings and install groundwater monitoring wells.
  • Document field events and prepare samples for laboratory pick-up.
  • Develop tables, figures, and reports/documents for the remediation department.
  • Follow company safety standards and participate in safety training.
  • Prepare and implement site safety plans.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Geology, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • 0 to 3 years experience in a related field.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER preferred but not required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and orally.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to pass an extensive background investigation and pre-employment drug screen.

  • Experience with environmental remediation projects.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations and compliance standards.
