The Environmental Engineering Trainee position at the Department of Environmental Protection is designed for individuals who are meticulous and possess strong organizational skills. This role involves a 12-month training period under close supervision, where the trainee will engage in both formal and on-the-job training to fulfill various environmental engineering tasks. The primary focus will be on reviewing National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) and Water Quality Management permit applications, which are critical for maintaining environmental standards and ensuring compliance with regulations. During the training, the Environmental Engineering Trainee will acquire essential skills to assess and monitor storm-water projects, participate in outreach activities, and draft deficiency letters that include regulatory citations. The responsibilities will encompass evaluating permit applications, developing informative materials, reviewing water quality management permit submissions, and managing municipal waste-load programs. The trainee will also be expected to address issues that arise and suggest resolutions to the Section Chief, thereby contributing to the overall goals of the Permit Section. This full-time position offers a structured work schedule from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with a 30-minute lunch break. There is an opportunity for telework, allowing the trainee to work from home up to three days per week, provided they have a secure high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location within Pennsylvania. The starting salary for this position is set at $63,590.00 annually, with the possibility of non-negotiable starting salaries for new candidates.
