About the position

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Supervisor at DG Foods is responsible for overseeing the implementation and maintenance of environmental health and safety programs at the Hazlehurst, MS facility. This role is crucial for ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, fostering a culture of safety, minimizing risk, and promoting environmental stewardship within the facility. The EHS Supervisor will report directly to the Corporate EHS Manager and play a key role in training, audits, and incident investigations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with OSHA and other regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct safety training sessions for employees, ensuring that all staff are knowledgeable about safety protocols, emergency procedures, and the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Lead investigations of workplace incidents and accidents, documenting findings and recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with environmental regulations related to waste management, air quality, and water usage.
  • Prepare and submit necessary environmental reports.
  • Perform regular safety audits and inspections of the facility to identify hazards, assess risks, and ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Analyze safety data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Prepare reports for the Corporate EHS Manager and other stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans, including training staff on emergency procedures and conducting drills.
  • Work closely with plant management and staff to foster a culture of safety and environmental responsibility.
  • Engage with external agencies as needed.
  • Stay current with industry best practices and regulatory changes, making recommendations for improvements to EHS programs and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum three (3) to five (5) years of EHS management, preferably in the food processing or poultry industry.
  • Proficiency in technology, computer software, and analytical skills.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, environmental laws, and safety standards.
  • Certification in safety management (e.g., CSP, CHMM, COSS) is a plus.
  • Proven experience in conducting safety training and audits.
  • Must be eighteen (18) years of age.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including holidays and weekends.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certification in safety management (e.g., CSP, CHMM, COSS) is a plus.
