About the position

The Environmental Health & Safety Engineer at SpaceX is responsible for ensuring compliance with safety regulations and guidelines, monitoring employee exposure to hazards, and developing safety policies and procedures. This role plays a critical part in maintaining a safe working environment and supporting the company's mission of enabling human life on Mars.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain compliance with all applicable regulations and/or guidelines established by OSHA, NFPA and NIOSH.
  • Collaborate with department leadership to complete job hazard assessments and implement health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Monitor employee exposure to physical and chemical hazards.
  • Understand and implement machine guarding where needed.
  • Develop recommendations for remedial actions when safety policies are not met by employees.
  • Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Complete and maintain documented safety observations from regular hazard identification audits.
  • Investigate industrial accidents, injuries, or occupational diseases to determine root causes, corrective actions, and preventive measures.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain safety contingency plans (fires, spills, etc.).
  • Ensure that resources are allocated appropriately to safety-related items.
  • Ensure technicians are completing required safety inspections via daily communication and oversight.
  • Maintain recordkeeping and compliance requirements established for permitted sources defined by the local AQMD.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 3+ years of experience in the design, development, and operational oversight of environmental, health, and safety disciplines.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering with an emphasis in occupational health and safety.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in interpreting, applying, and documenting federal, state, and local safety and environmental regulations.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Familiarity and implementation of machine guarding and industrial hygiene programs.
  • Experience with emergency response communication and incident management in incidents involving hazardous and non-hazardous material releases to air, soil, and water.
  • Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook) proficiency.
  • Passion for advancing the commercial and National Security space industry.
  • Ability and willingness to obtain a Top-Secret clearance.
