About the position
The Environmental Health Specialist position at Adams County encompasses four levels (I-IV), each with increasing responsibilities and requirements. Responsibilities
- Investigates environmental health conditions and initiates compliance orders.
- Performs field tests to ensure safe operation of equipment and facilities.
- Conducts inspections of various facilities to ensure compliance with environmental standards.
- Communicates findings to facility owners and managers effectively.
- Inputs data accurately into environmental health program systems.
- Reviews and approves plans and specifications for environmental health compliance.
- Participates in community outreach to promote environmental health programs.
- May lead special teams or projects depending on the level of the position.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in environmental health or related field with coursework in physical, biological, chemical, or sanitary sciences.
- Valid Colorado Driver's License or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
- Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) credential for EHS III and IV levels.
- Experience requirements vary by level: EHS I (none), EHS II (2 years), EHS III (4 years with 2 as EHS II), EHS IV (6 years with 2 as EHS III).
Nice-to-haves
- Master's degree in environmental health or related field (preferred for EHS II-IV).
- Experience in public health agency roles.
- Knowledge of National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) equipment standards.
