About the position

The Environmental Inspector will assist the Environmental Manager in implementing environmental protection plans and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. This role involves overseeing environmental documentation, coordinating with subcontractors, and conducting impact assessments to mitigate environmental risks. The position is crucial for maintaining environmental stewardship on construction projects, particularly in relation to the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) and other regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Environmental Manager in implementing Environmental Protection Plan (EPP) commitments.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulatory requirements.
  • Function as the principal inspector and author for environmental documentation of daily reports.
  • Gather and organize required documentation from specialists (biological, cultural, noise, air, water, hazardous materials, etc.).
  • Oversee implementation of the NPDES Permit and coordinate amendments with the Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP).
  • Meet Erosion and Sediment Control Inspector Qualifications as defined by EPA and the NPDES Permit conditions.
  • Implement environmental requirements and Best Management Practices (BMPs) as outlined in the EPP and associated appendices.
  • Coordinate and oversee environmental subcontractors and sediment and erosion control efforts.
  • Complete, submit, and maintain accurate records of environmental compliance, including non-compliance reports and monitoring reports.
  • Audit, analyze, and report on environmental performance to clients and regulatory bodies.
  • Collaborate with design and construction teams to minimize adverse environmental impacts.
  • Conduct impact assessments to identify, evaluate, and mitigate environmental risks.
  • Prepare environmental reports for supervisor review and leadership presentations.
  • Raise awareness about emerging environmental issues and coordinate public hearings and consultations.
  • Train staff on environmental issues and responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Engineering or an environmental related field required.
  • 5+ years of previous experience in environmental inspection or related field.
  • Environmental certification highly regarded.
  • RCRA Hazardous Waste Management training required upon hiring.
  • Department of Transportation, Transportation of Hazardous Materials Training required upon hiring.
  • Marine species observational experience with ability to identify marine species.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Resource Conservation And Recovery Act (RCRA).
  • Training in environmental compliance and management.
