About the position

The Environmental & Permitting Manager is responsible for leading environmental compliance and permitting activities for the organization's projects and operations. This role ensures adherence to environmental regulations at various levels while promoting sustainable practices and minimizing environmental impact. The Manager collaborates with internal stakeholders, regulatory agencies, and external consultants to secure necessary permits and implement environmental strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a subject matter expert and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to oversee environmental tasks in support of project development and construction.
  • Assist in identifying suitable hydrogen and renewable energy siting opportunities.
  • Manage research and characterization of surface water, groundwater, and wastewater resources in areas targeted for hydrogen development.
  • Coordinate with federal, state, and local agencies regarding environmental regulations affecting hydrogen and renewable energy development.
  • Identify and characterize permitting requirements associated with hydrogen and renewable energy projects.
  • Vet third-party consulting organizations for environmental assessments and permitting initiatives.
  • Support the Project Development team in environmental and permitting presentations to stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with the Operations team to understand environmental and safety aspects of hydrogen production facilities.
  • Remain abreast of technical aspects of hydrogen and renewable energy technologies.
  • Represent the company professionally in all interactions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental health and safety or related degree required; advanced degree desired.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in environmental compliance, permitting, or a related field.
  • Proven expertise in navigating federal, state, and local environmental regulations and permitting processes.
  • Record of accomplishment in assisting renewable energy projects with environmental and permitting constraints.
  • Ability to manage third-party environmental/permitting consultants.
  • Working knowledge of renewable energy-related project development.
  • General understanding of the hydrogen economy and its relationship with renewable energy.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • High attention to detail and organizational skills for maintaining compliance records.
