About the position

DEA is seeking an Environmental Permitting Planner to specialize in renewable energy projects in Colorado. This role is crucial for ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and obtaining necessary permits for renewable energy initiatives. The planner will work within the transportation business unit, focusing on NEPA documentation while coordinating with geomatics and energy business units. The position involves collaboration with project teams, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to lead the permitting process and support the successful implementation of projects.

Responsibilities

  • Stay informed about federal, state, and local environmental regulations related to renewable energy projects in Colorado and neighboring states.
  • Interpret and apply regulatory requirements to renewable energy and transportation project activities.
  • Develop and implement permitting strategies for renewable energy projects.
  • Prepare and submit permit applications to regulatory agencies.
  • Coordinate with agencies, consultants, and stakeholders to facilitate the permitting process for renewable energy and transportation projects.
  • Conduct environmental impact assessments to identify potential project impacts.
  • Propose mitigation measures to minimize environmental effects.
  • Engage with regulatory agencies, local communities, and other stakeholders to address concerns and build positive relationships.
  • Communicate project details and environmental compliance to relevant parties.
  • Maintain accurate records of permits, correspondence, and regulatory submissions.
  • Prepare regular reports on permitting status and environmental compliance.
  • Collaborate with clients, project managers, engineers, and other team members to integrate environmental considerations into project planning.
  • Provide guidance on environmentally responsible practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Planning, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of permitting and environmental evaluation experience related to renewable energy projects.
  • Knowledge of Colorado environmental regulations and permitting processes.
  • Experience in permitting for renewable energy projects is highly desirable, with experience in NEPA analysis and documentation for transportation projects as a secondary focus.
  • Ability to serve as technical lead for resource-specific studies and documentation relative to hazardous materials, noise, air quality, or other environmental resources.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team and independently.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Experience with FERC requirements is preferred.
