About the position

The Environmental Permitting Specialist will provide technical support and expertise to project managers for commercial and federal projects, focusing on permit and technical report writing for various environmental and utility projects. The role involves coordinating with team leads and project managers to prepare permit applications and technical reports, as well as conducting field activities such as site surveys and habitat assessments.

Responsibilities

  • Complete permit and technical report writing for environmental and utility projects.
  • Coordinate with project managers and technical staff to prepare permit applications and technical reports.
  • Conduct field investigations and site surveys to gather data for permit applications.
  • Oversee restoration and mitigation projects as required by permitting needs.
  • Produce clear and precise technical reports of field results appropriate to the scope of work.
  • Communicate project tasks and progress with team leads and project managers.
  • Review applicable regulations and permit requirements to evaluate project needs.

Requirements

  • B.S. or B.A. in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, or related natural resource program.
  • 5-10 years of experience in environmental consulting, particularly in federal, state, and local permitting.
  • Prior experience in biology is preferred, but other technical backgrounds may be considered.
  • Certification in the use of the USACE wetland delineation manual is preferred.
  • Certification as a Soil Scientist and/or Professional Wetland Scientist is a plus.
  • Experience in site assessment, including studies on threatened and endangered species.
  • High knowledge of State (NYDEC, PADEP, NJDEP) and Federal (USEPA, USFWS, USACE) regulations and permitting.
  • Skill in technical writing and proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in environmental consulting in biology.
  • Certification as a Soil Scientist and/or Professional Wetland Scientist.
