About the position

The primary duties of the position consist of information management activities to support statewide environmental permitting, which include preparing weekly notices for the DEC Environmental Notice Bulletin; assisting regional staff using the Department's permit application and facility databases; and providing quality control/quality assurance assistance and metrics for permit application information. Additional duties may include support for the analysis, development and testing of a new permit information system, and other data quality and information management initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare weekly notices for the DEC Environmental Notice Bulletin.
  • Assist regional staff using the Department's permit application and facility databases.
  • Provide quality control/quality assurance assistance and metrics for permit application information.
  • Support the analysis, development, and testing of a new permit information system.
  • Engage in data quality and information management initiatives.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as environmental science, biology, engineering, or related disciplines.
  • For Trainee 2: A bachelor's degree and one year of professional qualifying experience.
  • For EPS 1: A bachelor's degree and two years of qualifying experience.
  • Experience in program policy development, preparing and interpreting rules and regulations, and managing procurement documents.
  • Ability to collect data, perform qualitative or quantitative policy analyses, and write technical reports.

Nice-to-haves

  • Environmental/Natural Science coursework.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to learn new software systems.
  • Experience with GIS, Drupal, and document management systems.
  • Project management experience.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
