The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Environmental Project Coordinator within the Natural Resources Division. This professional role is pivotal in overseeing various County programs related to marine resources, including dune management, coral reefs, artificial reefs, marine biological monitoring, living shorelines, and the conservation of protected marine species such as manatees and sea turtles. The Environmental Project Coordinator will manage the Broward County Sea Turtle Conservation Program and serve as a core staff member for other Marine Resources projects. In this capacity, the coordinator will be responsible for all aspects of the Sea Turtle Conservation Program, which includes developing and managing contracts and budgets, evaluating and analyzing data, and coordinating with federal and state agencies, municipalities, and volunteer groups. The role also involves performing community outreach, conducting advanced independent research, and managing GIS databases to evaluate program success and recommend necessary policy or procedural modifications. Collaboration with local academia and other organizations to further research on sea turtles and their habitats is also a key component of this position. Additionally, the Environmental Project Coordinator will participate as a core scientific diver in coral reef and artificial reef investigations, biological monitoring, data collection, analysis, and report writing. Candidates should possess a high level of motivation, creativity, and superior organizational and project management skills, as this role operates under general supervision, allowing for independent development of work methods and sequences.
