About the position

The Environmental Protection Specialist at NASA's Ames Research Center serves as the NEPA Manager, responsible for implementing the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) program in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role involves managing natural resources and wildlife protection initiatives, acting as a subject matter expert, and providing strategic guidance to Center personnel and management. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders and supports the development of environmental impact statements and resource management programs.

Responsibilities

  • Implement the Ames Research Center (ARC) National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) program according to relevant laws and NASA policy.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for environmental planning for NASA actions, including construction, research, and long-range development plans.
  • Develop updated Environmental Impact Statements and manage program duties such as work plans and cost estimates.
  • Provide technical guidance and strategic advice to Center management and stakeholders regarding environmental planning.
  • Oversee the implementation of the ARC Natural Resource Management program in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Consult with agencies like the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on wildlife management issues.
  • Support the development and implementation of agency-wide initiatives related to natural resource management.
  • Foster a culture of engagement, diversity, inclusiveness, and excellence within the organization.

Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level, specifically in implementing NEPA for development and planning at Ames Research Center.
  • Experience in natural resources and wildlife management.
  • Demonstrated ability to act as a subject matter expert for environmental programs.
