About the position

The Environmental Protection Specialist position within the Department of Homeland Security's Mitigation Division focuses on providing Environmental & Historic Preservation (EHP) assistance to support disaster recovery operations. The role involves reviewing FEMA grant applications, offering technical guidance to various stakeholders, and advising FEMA management on environmental program improvements. This position is critical in ensuring compliance with federal and state EHP laws and regulations while contributing to the agency's mission of disaster management.

Responsibilities

• Review FEMA grant applications submitted by state, tribal, and local governments for compliance with the Stafford Act and EHP laws.
• Provide technical guidance to state, tribal, and local officials and non-governmental organizations on FEMA EHP work.
• Advise FEMA management and regional EHP staff on the implementation and improvement of environmental programs.

Requirements

• One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the IC-07 level in the Federal government, demonstrating compliance with federal and state EHP laws.
• Experience in resolving technical or administrative environmental or historic preservation issues.
• Ability to prepare technical reports and presentations related to environmental federal laws and regulations.
• Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D.
