About the position

The Environmental Protection Specialist position at FEMA Region 3 involves supporting disaster recovery programs by conducting environmental and historic preservation compliance reviews. The role requires a senior-level environmental professional who can independently evaluate complex projects, prepare technical reports, and coordinate with stakeholders on compliance practices and policies.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical assistance to colleagues and internal and external stakeholders.
• Analyze proposed actions to determine the appropriate level of NEPA documentation.
• Complete non-disaster and disaster program environmental compliance reviews.
• Conduct training and outreach to internal and external stakeholders.
• Collaborate with regulatory agencies to resolve problems and maintain continuity of work.

Requirements

• One full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the IC-11 level in the Federal government.
• Experience evaluating impacts to environmental or historic resources by applying relevant environmental laws.
• Experience coordinating with internal and external partners to provide technical guidance.
• Experience writing standard operating procedures, guidance documents, or consultation letters related to environmental or historic preservation compliance.
• For IC-13 level: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the IC-12 level in the Federal government.
• Experience leading the evaluation of impacts on environmental and cultural resources.
• Experience serving as a technical advisor on environmental and historic preservation compliance practices or policies.
• Experience analyzing problems and presenting solutions/presentations to senior leadership.
