About the position

The Environmental Protection Specialist position at FEMA involves providing environmental and historic preservation guidance, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations for grants, and educating stakeholders on environmental compliance. This role is crucial in supporting FEMA's mission to assist communities before, during, and after disasters, particularly in the context of environmental and historic preservation compliance.

Responsibilities

• Provide environmental and historic preservation compliance technical assistance to teammates and partners.
• Coordinate with environmental and historic preservation staff in field and regional offices to identify compliance issues.
• Ensure environmental and historic preservation compliance is incorporated into grants.
• Determine if grants require environmental and historic preservation compliance review and identify additional documentation needed for compliance.
• Ensure grants comply with environmental and historic preservation laws and executive orders, including the National Environmental Act and Clean Water Act.
• Educate non-environmental and historic preservation practitioners on compliance laws and best practices.

Requirements

• One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the IC-09 level in the Federal government, including reviewing documentation for compliance with environmental laws.
• Experience in recommending environmental and historic preservation improvements and collaborating with stakeholders on compliance issues.
• Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or 2 full years of progressively higher-level education leading to such a degree, or LL.B. or J.D. if related.
