About the position

The Environmental Protection Specialist position at FEMA is a temporary role focused on overseeing compliance with the Endangered Species Act and other related environmental laws. The specialist will serve as a subject matter expert, conducting reviews and consultations to ensure the protection of biological natural resources. This role is critical in supporting FEMA's mission to manage environmental impacts during disaster response and recovery efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting reviews under the Endangered Species Act, Magnuson-Stevens Act, Marine Mammal Protection Act, and other related laws.
  • Maintaining awareness of all listed, threatened, and proposed species within New England.
  • Serving as a subject matter expert for relevant environmental laws and executive orders.
  • Assisting with National Environmental Policy Act reviews as applicable.
  • Providing technical assistance to internal and external partners.

Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the IC-12 level in the Federal government.
  • Experience completing complex environmental reviews under relevant laws.
  • Experience coordinating with internal and external partners to provide technical guidance.
  • Experience leading teams in addressing environmental or historic preservation impacts.
