About the position

The Environmental Protection Technician position within the Department of Defense involves performing environmental analysis related to hazardous waste disposal. The role focuses on ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and involves working closely with disposal contractors to maintain environmental standards. The technician will also support contract specialists and participate in audits and problem resolution meetings.

Responsibilities

• Perform environmental analysis on actions taken by disposal contractors handling hazardous waste.
• Examine documents submitted by contractors to ensure a clear audit trail from generator to final disposal facility.
• Identify discrepancies in contracts and environmental compliance and recommend resolutions to contracting specialists.
• Enter manifest tracking data into automated disposal and supply systems.
• Participate in post-award conferences and problem resolution meetings with disposal contractors.
• Support contract specialists in the administration of hazardous waste disposal contracts.
• Assist the surveillance team in preparation for audits.

Requirements

• One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level in the Federal service or related experience in the private sector.
• Experience validating and documenting contractor performance related to contract requirements.
• Experience examining documentation for completeness, accuracy, and timeliness.
• Experience performing mission-related technical or clerical work.

Nice-to-haves

• Graduate education related to environmental science or a similar field may be credited in some instances.
