About the position

The Radiation Health Physicist 2 (RHP2) position in the Office of Radiation Protection is a full-time, permanent role focused on safeguarding public health by monitoring and controlling radiation exposure. The RHP2 will conduct sample collection and data analysis, model radiation release and transport, and evaluate documents related to radiation safety, ensuring compliance with safety standards. This role offers a hybrid work environment, balancing remote work with field activities primarily in Eastern Washington.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct sample collection and data analysis to understand the presence and effects of radiation in various environments.
  • Use scientific methods to model radiation release, transport, and exposure for environmental protection and public safety.
  • Review and evaluate technically complex documents related to proposed radiation releases and contamination removal.

Requirements

  • Two years as a Radiation Health Physicist 1 or equivalent experience in an official radiation control program.
  • A Bachelor's degree or higher in physical science, engineering, or biological science, along with one year of experience in an official radiation control program.
  • Proficient in computer skills including word processing, data input into databases, and effective communication.

Nice-to-haves

  • A Master's degree in radiological or nuclear disciplines, radiation safety, health physics, or related field.
  • Experience with investigating radiation incidents or accidents.
  • Experience interpreting regulations and policies governing the use of radioactive materials.
  • Experience in Environmental Health Physics.
  • Experience with radiological computer programs.
