About the position

The Environmental Review Project Coordinator - Planner Principal State position at the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) is responsible for managing environmental review processes under the Minnesota Environmental Policy Act (MEPA). This role involves preparing Environmental Assessment Worksheets (EAWs) and Environmental Impact Statements (EISs), coordinating technical staff teams, and advising on environmental review requirements. The position plays a critical role in ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and represents the MPCA in various communications with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the Environmental Review Project Manager for EAWs and EISs preparation.
  • Coordinate activities of technical staff teams for timely review of EAWs, EIS, and permit applications.
  • Advise MPCA staff and other agencies on environmental review requirements.
  • Represent MPCA in meetings and communications with project proposers, the public, and governmental officials.

Requirements

  • Two years of advanced professional experience in environmental protection/pollution control.
  • Strong analytical, research, organizational, project development, and communication skills.
  • Project management skills to manage concurrent activities and coordinate work of others.
  • Ability to plan, organize, collaborate, and direct work under tight timeframes.
  • Familiarity with quantitative analysis methods and data analysis tools.
  • Ability to review and evaluate technical documents.
  • Strong writing and public speaking skills.
  • Possess a valid Driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in environmental sciences, planning, biology, chemistry, engineering, political sciences, public administration, or related field.
  • Experience administering EAWs and EIS documents.
  • Experience calculating greenhouse gas emissions and assessing climate impacts.
  • Knowledge of climate adaptation and mitigation strategies.
  • Regulatory experience with MEPA and EQB rules.
  • Experience with MPCA environmental review categories.
  • Community engagement experience.
  • Experience leading interdisciplinary teams and building relationships with stakeholders.
  • Ability to use GIS data and maps.
