About the position

The Environmental Science Adjunct Instructor position at SAE Institute is a part-time role focused on facilitating student learning and achieving course and program outcomes. The instructor will be responsible for teaching, inspiring, and guiding students while continually improving instructional skills and updating course materials. This role requires compliance with institutional policies and a commitment to maintaining high educational standards.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate student learning toward course and program outcomes.
  • Teach and inspire students in Environmental Science courses.
  • Update instructional materials to support SAE courses.
  • Set high expectations for quality of work in student assignments.
  • Ensure students complete coursework with quality and attention to detail.
  • Comply with all policies and procedures outlined in the faculty handbook.
  • Establish a conducive classroom environment for learning and student involvement.
  • Manage the learning environment by keeping accurate records and enforcing college policies.
  • Post attendance and grades in a timely manner.
  • Develop instructional plans and course activities that meet competencies.
  • Advise at-risk students and coordinate with academic staff for support.
  • Maintain and manage content on the Learning Management System (Canvas).
  • Engage and communicate with students using the Learning Management System.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Environmental Science or related field with 18 semester credits in the coursework area.
  • Expert knowledge of subject matter taught in specific courses.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Outstanding conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated time management and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and follow instructions.
  • Knowledge of common office software, including Microsoft Office Suite.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Learning Management Systems, particularly Canvas.
  • Participation in academic advising and curriculum committees.
  • Experience in developing innovative teaching methodologies.
