About the position

The Environmental and Cultural Resources Team is looking for an additional environmental scientist to assist with permitting projects with federal and state agencies. The applicant must have strong writing skills and should be familiar with the National Environmental Policy Act requirements for different project types. Successful applicants will have previous experience filling out categorial exclusions, environmental assessments, or environmental impact statements, and coordinating with federal, state, and local entities. Some field visits may be required. GIS background preferred. Vantage Point is a dynamic engineering firm with offices around the United States. We specialize in broadband and power engineering projects, generally for rural communities. The Environmental and Cultural Resource Department includes an inter-disciplinary group of individuals that complete projects to support the engineering staff, and for clients elsewhere.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with the team and federal and state agencies on permitting requirements
  • Submission of documents
  • Project management to meet deadlines and client needs
  • Quality control/quality assurance of technical reports and permits
  • Writing and preparation of NEPA documents
  • Field surveys as needed
  • Some supervisory tasks, for junior staff

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in one of the following fields (or related field): environmental resource management; ecology; geology; biology; forestry; sustainability; natural resource management; planning; archeology; history
  • Experience with federal or state permitting for environmental resources required
  • Valid US Driver’s license, clean driving record
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to be in the field/travel a plus but not mandatory
  • GIS background preferred
