This position is in the Environmental Licensing & Permitting Section of the Corporate Environmental Services Department supporting early-stage and late-stage project development for NextEra Energy Resources and other NextEra Energy affiliates. The position provides the opportunity to use your environmental knowledge and skills to help evaluate and acquire permits for renewable energy projects. You will advise multidisciplinary teams on environmental site constraints and permitting strategies to facilitate development of a broad range of energy projects including wind and solar; energy storage as well as transmission lines.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct site visits to verify presence and extents of potential Waters of the U.S. (WOTUS)
  • Work closely with late-stage environmental specialists and project managers
  • Search out and evaluate potential project sites
  • Complete early stage federal, state and local environmental licensing and permitting throughout the southeastern United States
  • Coordinate with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) district offices
  • Review potential Waters of the U.S. technical reports
  • Apply for and support permits from land use agencies at the county, state, and federal levels
  • Maintain good working relationships with local agency staff and Non-Governmental Organizations

Requirements

  • Focused experience evaluating potential WOTUS including disturbed sites with complex wetlands scenarios
  • Experience with energy infrastructure or other land development projects
  • Ability to work collaboratively to support multiple projects with multifaceted environmental and regulatory issues
  • Field mapping and GIS skills
  • Current knowledge of pertinent national and state level environmental policies and regulations
  • Ability to effectively interface with internal and external customers, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders

Nice-to-haves

  • Solid track record of coordination with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE)
  • Understanding of environmental regulations such as Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, and National Historic Preservation Act
